of the neighborhood businesses (like the “ma and pa”
corner grocery store) shutting down due to a lack of
customer support.
The same holds true in the Christian church
community. Smaller neighborhood and family friendly
churches were easily found in any neighborhood. Did you
ever wonder why some fairly decent sized community
churches were built without parking lots?
I’ve heard people say it was because of poor
planning or design. Well actually, that isn’t why. It was
because the people who were served by those churches
came from within the neighborhood. They didn’t need
parking lots. They walked to church.
As with the introduction of malls, churches began
to introduce the idea of constructing larger buildings
that could hold more people. Some even purchased
super-sized sports arenas and stadiums that could hold
tens of thousands of people.
Justifiably, they called these enormous gathering
places, mega-churches. People began to leave the
neighborhood churches faster than they left their local
community stores and businesses.
To accommodate the exodus from the local
churches, mega-churches began adding more and
more services. Now, supporters can decide which one
of the three (3) or more identical services they feel like
attending on Sunday.
SOME CHURCHES SPREAD
MORE DISEASE THAN CURE
Infectious diseases spread faster, and can travel
much further than cure. It has been proven easier to
spread the coronavirus than to cure it.
