Towards Better Compaction
PPE
Face masks and hearing protection can
make it difficult to communicate. Ensure
your message is understood while
meeting your WHS PPE requirements.
Always ensure that your
message is understood as
you intended it. Do not be
afraid to ask questions to
confirm that the listeners
have fully understood your
message!
Effective communication
a. Be clear, concise, simple and complete – don’t make it any more complex
than it needs to be.
b. Use appropriate methods of communication – e.g. don’t try and talk over
the noise of a jet slinger.
c. Facilitate two-way communication – remember the communication cycle.
d. Focus on the facts – not opinions.
e. Ensure actions required are identified and understood.
f. Communicate ethically and according to the principle of your organisation.
g. Be assertive if required.
h. Encourage open communication.
i. Be prepared – know what you want to say.
Why do we need to communicate?
Communication is a vital part of creating and maintaining a safe, effective and efficient work
environment. Effective communication helps us achieve our goals of consistent and effective loading
compaction figures.
