Towards Better Compaction

               Vessel Safety

In 2017, 190 workers (5 in Tasmania) were fatally injured at work with 93% of them being male
workers. Fatalities were evenly spread across the working age group with the Agriculture, Forestry
and Fishery industry recording the highest fatality rate.

               Slips/trips

Slips and trips are the primary cause of injuries and potential loss of life on ships! Woodchip carriers,
by design, have many trip hazards that should be avoided. Also, wet woodchips can be very slippery.
Make sure you include trip/slip hazards in your handovers to other operators or shifts.

Make sure your workspace is safe before you start working. Look around and identify any potential
slip or trip hazards and, where possible, clearly mark them.
Always walk with marked walkways and use correct pipe crossing points.
