The rocker arms were sent to Rocker
Arms unlimited for shaft re-chrome and
bushings. Of course, there was a snag.
The rocker arms and shaft were
apparently old, first-generation Moss
reproductions that were made from very
soft metal and could not be bored and
bushed because the soft metal tears up
the tooling. So back to the drawing board
I managed to find a good set on eBay with
only 30k miles on them for $75, so I
bought them. When they arrived, I
disassembled the set and found there was
no visible wear. So I will hold off on
having them re-bushed until a later date.
The eBay rocker arms are now
disassembled and waiting on cleanup and
shaft polish. Notice the use of a 24 ct
plastic egg crate to keep track of where
the rockers were in their original position
on the shaft. This is very important
because the arms and shaft wear together
and must go back in the same position. I
will use a green Scotchbrite pad to remove
the varnish on the shaft.
The harmonic balancer rubber was all
dried out, so I sent it to be rebuilt at
Damper Dudes in CA who did a terrific job
rebuilding and repainting the original
