The Fixit Corner continued from page 37
The original radiat or was rebuilt at Emissions
and Cooling in Nashville and looks new.
I next took a bunch of parts to Quality Plating to
be zinc plated. The quality results were mixed.
Most pieces were quite nice, while some looked
somewhat rough.
The throttle lever bell cranks, door striker
plates and fuel pump caps came out nice in
yellow zinc. I was trying to replicate the original
color as I?ve seen on several survivor cars.
Since I had four of these that I'd collected over
the years, I decided to rebuild and plate them
all to sell them and recover some of the cost of
the engine rebuild.
I had the flywheel and clutch pressure plate
resurfaced, and the throw-out bearing replaced
by Randall at Tennessee Clutch. He also riveted
on a new clutch disc pad and went so far as to
balance the pressure plate which was nice.
This guy is as old school as they get.
Everything is on paper or in his head. He even
had a cork clutch disk (yes, as in sliced wine
bottle corks!) from an old Hudson.
He said it is a ?wet? clutch that rides in oil!
?Lasts forever?, he said. He has reasonable
prices and quick turnaround. Great job,
Randall!
