RED CASES
These cases are assessed by the practitioner as high
risk and requiring immediate action to achieve safety
for one or more family members before any ADR
processes can begin. By definition, the case
complexity (family violence, drug and alcohol, mental
health, suicidality, child abuse investigations) is not
managed and the practitioner concern is that the case
is out of control. The clients report that while the
complexities are present there is limited or no current
support/intervention from protection agencies
(domestic violence workers, shelters, policing, child
protection, protection orders, health medical,
psychological or psychiatric agencies).
There is no current safety plan, at least one person
indicates an immediate risk to their safety or to the
safety of others.
Implications for ADR Child Meetings
These cases are not suitable for ADR until sufficient
support interventions are in place to change the
risk colour to Orange.
The duty of care of the practitioner for the safety of
the family becomes greater than the offer of the
ADR intervention. Short term safety planning is
necessary followed by a warm referral to an
appropriate protection agency (Graham, 2016).
