DURING YOUR EXPLORATION YOU ARE:
Actively listening
Suspend your judgment about what the drawing means to
you
Repeating parts of the narrative and exploring it further
Form of paraphrasing – child knows you are present with him/her
Assisting the child to elaborate his/her descriptions
Use anchors:
SCRIPT
If the bear could go to over the bridge to the other side, what would
she like to do there?
Use what is in front of you to elaborate the metaphor, such as the bear and
the bridge
Providing empathic responses
Using your tone of voice, body language and facial expressions
Using the object or product area to focus on
When exploring a drawing or an art product, your field of vision remains on
the product and not intruding in the child’s space
Do not touch or move around the child’s items. You can ask questions in the
metaphor, but try not to impose your actions on their play objects or drawings
