The East Vinery
..
Jupp and Mc Erlan’s report notes.
EAST LEAN-TO VINERY
`Lean-to Vinery, about 82ft long and
planted with vines in variety’ [Sales
Particulars 1902].
The base of this house against the east
wall can be discern underneath the
high growth. It measures 25.5m [83ft
6in] by 4.2m [13R 6in] wide. The outer
wall is very low in comparison with the
other houses. One door opening is
traceable near the north end. No
internal divisions are visible. The base
of a further wall, lower in height is
visible parallel to the outer wall of the
house, and may define the edge of an
external vinery border. It is 2m [6ft 6in]
wide. Its nature should become clearer
when the area is stripped. The back
wall of the vinery has been plastered.
This house is referred to in 1905 as
follows: ‘Another vinery 90ft in length,
contained the varieties Mrs Pince’s
Muscat, Royal Muscadine, Royal
Vineyard, Madresfield Court and Gros
Maroc’.
