SEMESTER SPORTING HIGHLIGHTS | 31
STRONG FINISH TO SEASON
Our Junior Athletics team finished the season on a
high note at the HICES Athletics Carnival at Sydney
Olympic Park in September.
Our Junior athletes won a smattering of ribbons
across Age divisions and events, the highlight of
these being our Senior Boys’ Relay team who won
the 4 x 100m relay. Well done to Year 6 students
(clockwise from left) Monty Darwin, James
Reynolds, Charlie Taubman and Flynn Nicholls on
your great teamwork to gain this success.
Overall, our Junior School team finished in third
place for the Percentage Shield, and Flynn and
Charlie have gone on to gain selection in the
HICES Athletics team to compete in the Combined
Independent Schools (CIS) Carnival.
BEST IN AUSTRALIA
At the end of November, Orienteering Australia released their final
age group rankings for 2019.
Congratulations to Oliver Freeman (right, Year 9) who has been
competing in this sport for eight years and who is now ranked
number one in Australia in the Men’s 14 years age group.

On Sunday, 10 November, an Alumni XI took on the Headmaster’s XI in a T20 competition. Sent
th
in to bat, the Alumni XI (featuring graduates from 2016 to 2019) showed they had lost none of
their skills and talent since they left BMGS. Paddy Trihey (2017) led the batting for the Alumni,
scoring a hard hitting 54 at the top of the innings, helping their side to 6/150.
In reply, the Headmaster led the bowling attack, taking two wickets, and he was ably supported by
Mr. Arthur Crow and Mr. Ben Tufrey. Mr. Andrew Simpson scored a fine unbeaten 59 for
the Headmaster’s XI, but the Alumni bowled tight lines, restricting the score to 4/96 and winning
the day’s contest.
