Tablet Defects (Detailed):
1. Capping:
Separation of top or bottom crown from the body.
Causes:
• Air entrapment.
• Worn punches/dies.
• Too dry granules.
• Excess lubricant.
Remedy:
• Modify granulation moisture.
• Use tapered dies.
• Reduce speed.
2. Lamination:
Splitting of tablet into two or more layers.
Causes:
• Over-compression.
• Too much binder.
Remedy:
• Adjust compression.
• Optimize binder concentration.
3. Chipping:
Breaking at tablet edges.
Causes:
• Poor punch alignment.
• Worn dies.
• Rapid ejection.
