Challenges with DPI
More complex design and handling design and handling with regard to pMDI inhalers, and
thus a higher mechanical unreliability
The lack of an additional source of energy (apart from the patient’s inspired breath used to
spray the drug) makes it impossible to use them in the treatment of people whose age or
health condition do not allow them to breathe in vigorously to activate the device
In the last few decades, these devices have undergone numerous design modifications, as a
result of which they belong to the most numerous group of atomizing devices used for
inhalation
Due to the large variety of DPI type inhalers, it is important to select the appropriate type
of device individually for each patiPernoftAalynada Rtahmeadtaynp, ceeuotifcst,hAeU inhaled drug

Nebulizer
Nebulizers are devices that vaporize the inhalant solution into a
fine mist to aid inspiration
They are useful for the delivery of high doses of anti-asthmatic drugs
to patients with severe asthma
The nebulizer uses an air compressor as a power source instead of a liquid
propellant.
Compressed air is brought in contact with an aqueous solution of the
drug in a device. Liquid shearing leads to the formation of drug
droplets that get inhaled by the patient.
Dose: available as nebules or respules
