First generation
The most commonly used first generation cephalosporins
▪ Cephalexin, Cefadroxil
▪ Cefazolin
➢ Parenteral cefazolin used for
➢ surgical wound prophylaxis
➢ Streptococcal Pharyngitis
Spectrum:
• Active against Gram Positive bacteria (Streptococcus. Staphylococcus)
(Effective alternative to Penicillins)
• Limited activity against Gram-negative bacteria
• Poor activity against Anaerobes
