                                                       • Hydrolysed in the mammalian kidney by
                                       Imipenem
                                                         dihydropeptidase enzyme



                                                         Combined with
                                                           Cilastatin            dehydropeptidase
                                                                                       inhibitor


                                                                             Tienam





                     ➢  Imipenem and cilastatin injection is used to treat certain serious infections
                        (endocarditis  and  respiratory  tract  (including  pneumonia),  urinary  tract,
                        abdominal (stomach area), blood, skin, bone, and joint infections.


                   Meropenem, Ertapenem

                       ➢  not need to be administered in conjunction
                          with cilastatin.

                       ➢  Ertapenem has no P. aeruginosa coverage.


                     Adverse effects
                       ❑ At high doses, imipenem has a high incidence of seizures.
                          (not with meropenem)
