Autoclaving can be used for sterilization of

                    ✓ Culture media
                    ✓ Surgical stainless-steel instruments.

✓ surgical dressings, gauzes, sutures etc.
                    ✓ IV applicators, and syringes

NB. Plastics should be heat resistant, for example:

Polycarbonate (PC), PTFE (“Teflon”), Polypropylene (PP)

Can Not be used for sterilization of

✓ Anhydrous materials (oil, greases, powders)

✓ Steam cannot penetrate hollow needles
✓ instruments packed in moisture resistant materials.
                    ✓ Flammable materials.

                    ✓ Radioactive materials.

                                                    2- Irradiation.

Irradiation is the process of exposing surfaces and objects to different kinds of

                  radiation for sterilization.

                                       A- Non-ionizing radiation (Ultraviolet)

                  Known as ultraviolet germicidal radiation

Its efficiency is dependent on the wavelength, Intensity, and Duration
