The background of the apprentice trainees, affordability and callousness of regulating
agency in understanding the abilities of apprentices with regard to the online examination
and its failure to provide them awareness and preparation material.
Limitations in sparing apprentices for class room training as per the policy of regulating
agency (RDAT).
Keeping all above points in view the TTC team has to innovatively solve the problem of
providing awareness and reading material, since serious limitations of TTC in pursuing the
above quoted major problems as the training is considered in general as expenditure not
investment. The TTC team has compiled the trade theory multiple choice questions and
answers. Delivery of the multiple choice questions for the use of trainees is a difficult task,
ensuring trainees availability during working hours in the factory and not disturbing their
contribution of work to the departments. Providing printed material will cost the company
Rs.75900/- @ Rs.300/- per head. As such company is already paying Stipend approximately
Rs.8050/- per month for each ITI Trainee. The delivery of multiple choice questions to
trainee need flexibility of access and just-in-time availability for use. Smart phone were
considered as best device available to the majority of trainees and built a learning app to
enable easy push of multiple choice questions in PDF format. After testing the free app all
the trainees were called to the TTC and briefed them about the change in Examination policy
shift by Govt from traditional method of examination to online examination. TTC
demonstrated the app to all ITI trainees and familiarized them with download procedure
from the web site to their mobile. The facility is also given to access the free website
http://studentsapp.mobi/ttchalhyderabad with Android App and HTML 5 Options through
the above link.
Conclusion
Cyber Security Policy, Non availability of infrastructure, necessity of learning, statutory
responsibilities, regulating agencies non inclusive approach in decision making are the main
points which led TTC to develop Mobile Learning app. The innovative mobile learning
method has been implemented for the first time in HAL to deliver multiple choice questions
to ITI apprentices of different trades to prepare them for the online examination. The
method was successful and it is well received by the trainees. Mobile learning method
provided flexibility of access, just-in-time availability, and availability of trainees to
departments, cost reduction and blending of practical training with e-learning (mobile
learning).
