ROTARY COCHIN DOWNTOWN

A beautiful start to the day by a visit to the Island suburb of Kadamakudy Panchayat which was
MAR officially declared as 100% Open Defecation area thanks to the outstanding efforts of Rotary
18 Downtown through 3 Global Grants in constructing more than 300 toilets to achieve this Unique
distinction. The Club has being doing a lot to help the people in need of dialysis through the Rotary
Cancure Dialysis Centre. Must appreciate the generosity of their members who contributed about
Rs 5.50 lakhs for this noble cause. A public display informing of the free Dialysis offered by them
was unveiled at the Indira Gandhi Co-operative Hospital. We then visited the Govt. U. P. School
Thamaraparambu and Govt. U. P. School Amaravathi where 10 computers have been installed. Was
warmly welcomed by the school children with beautiful handmade cards. During the well attended
evening meeting their Honorary Member MLA Hibi Eden along with 4 other members were presented
with their PHF recognition. They also inducted 3 Lady members taking their membership strength
to 93 and may soon reach the Century mark. Rtr. Angela Prince was installed as President of the
Rotaract Club of Cochin Downtown whose members are children of Rotarians of Cochin Downtown
and the Charter was also presented. First Lady Shanthi Rajasekhar announced the winners of ‘Bake
your Rotary Cake & celebrate Rotary Day’ contest . The atmosphere at the venue was colourful and
festive as they were also celebrating their 24th Charter Day and felt like we were in some City in North
India celebrating Holi. The surprise flash mob dance by their members on popular Holi Songs and the
colourful attire worn by them brought the festive mood to a high. Was a memorable experience! Must
congratulate President Sujata Madhav Chandran, Secretary Maj. Susie Paul and Team Downtown
for the extraordinary work done by them. Cochin Downtown is indeed very lucky to have the support
and experience of PDG Madhav Chandran, Vivek Krishna and other senior members and of course
the ace is having the past First Lady of District, Sujata Madhavan as the President.
DD Varghese Joy, AG Vinu Joseph and GGR Raphael are actively involved with the Club.
