Net Profit
Net profit is calculated by subtracting a company's total expenses from total revenue, thus
showing what the company has earned (or lost) in a given period of time (one quarter or one
year). Also called net income or net earnings and is often informally referred to as “the
bottom line.”
Neurology Protocol Review (NPR)
Cross-functional, senior committee that reviews all neurology concepts, protocols, and
amendments before they are submitted to the Clinical Trial Review Board (CTRB) or other
review committees outside the Neurology Therapeutic area.
New Drug Application (NDA)
The vehicle through which drug sponsors formally propose that the FDA approve a new
pharmaceutical for sale and marketing in the U.S. The data gathered during the animal
studies and human clinical trials of an Investigational New Drug (IND) become part of the
NDA.
New Employee Orientation (NEO)
An interactive program to give new employees a deep understanding of Biogen’s business,
culture, history, products, science and the patients we serve.
Non-Investigational Medicinal Product (NIMP)
Includes rescue meds, challenge agents, required con meds, & background treatments.
Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)
Legal contract between parties that outlines confidential materials or knowledge they wish
to share with one another but wish to restrict access to
Non-GAAP
To facilitate external analysis of the company's operating performance, some companies
(including Biogen) also present financial information that may be considered "non-GAAP
financial measures." Non-GAAP financial measures should be evaluated in conjunction with,
and are not a substitute for, GAAP financial measures. Non-GAAP measures provide an
alternative view of performance that is used by management and may be useful in
understanding the company's ongoing performance.
