Now the overseer must be above reproach... temperate, self-
controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to
drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a
lover of money. (1 Timothy, 3:2-3)
Overcoming Anger
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander,
along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to
one another, forgiving each other, just as... God forgave you.
(Ephesians, 4:31-32)
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick
to listen, slow to become angry, for man's anger does not
bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get
rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and
humbly accept the Word [God's commandments] planted in
you, which can save you. (James, 1:19-21)
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will
be subject to judgment... (Matthew, 5:22)
But now you must rid yourselves of all such
things as these: anger, rage, malice, slan-
der, and filthy language from your
lips. Do not lie to each other, since
you have taken off your old
self with its practices...
(Colossians, 3:8-10)
