WISDOM AND SOUND ADVICE FROM THE TORAH
"... Rend er true and sound judg ment in your courts; do not
plot evil against your neigh bor... I hate all this," de clares the
Lord. Again the word of the Lord Almighty came to me. This
is what the Lord Almighty says: "... Therefore love truth and
peace." (Zechariah, 8:16-18)
... The whole world at rest and in peace. (Zechariah, 1:11)
... "May those who love you be se cure. May there be peace
with in your walls and se cu ri ty with in your cit a dels." For the
sake of my broth ers and friends, I will say, "Peace be with -
in you." (Psalms, 122:6-8)
The Importance of Reason and Wisdom
The fear of the Lord is the be gin ning of wis dom, and knowl -
edge of the Holy One is un der stand ing. (Proverbs, 9:10)
... Bet ter to get wis dom than gold, to choose un der stand ing
rath er than sil ver! (Proverbs, 16:16)
The fear of the Lord teach es a man wis dom, and hu mil i ty
comes be fore hon or. (Proverbs, 15:33)
Coral and jas per are not wor thy of men tion; the price of wis -
dom is be yond ru bies. (Job, 28:18)
And He said to man, "The fear of the Lord—that is wis dom,
and to shun evil is un der stand ing." (Job, 28:28)
But it is the spir it in a man, the breath of the Almighty that
gives him un der stand ing. It is not on ly the old who are wise,
not on ly the aged who un der stand what is right. (Job, 32:8-9)
