                A wise man has great pow er, and a man of knowl edge in -
                creas es strength. (Proverbs, 24:5)


                Blessed is the man who finds wis dom, the man who gains
                un der stand ing. (Proverbs, 3:13)

                [Wis dom] is a tree of life to those who em brace her; those
                who lay hold of her will be bless ed. (Proverbs, 3:18)


                Would a wise man an swer with emp ty no tions or fill his bel -
                ly with the hot east wind? Would he ar gue with use less
                words, with speech es that have no val ue? (Job, 15:2-3)

                A re buke im press es a man of dis cern ment more than a hun -
                dred lash es a fool. (Proverbs, 17:10)

                The tongue of the wise com mends knowl edge, but the
                mouth of the fool gush es fol ly. (Proverbs, 15:2)


                The lips of the wise spread knowl edge; not so the hearts of
                fools. (Proverbs, 15:7)

                Folly de lights a man who lacks judg ment, but a man of un der -
                stand ing keeps a straight course. (Proverbs, 15:21)


                Who is like the wise man? Who knows the ex pla na tion of
                things? Wisdom bright ens a man's face and chan ges its hard
                ap pear ance. (Ecclesiastes, 8:1)

                The wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in
                the dark ness. (Ecclesiastes, 2:14)


                A wise per son's heart leads the right way. The heart of a fool
                leads the wrong way. (Ecclesiastes, 10:2)
