The Creation of the Heavens and the Earth

In the be gin ning God cre at ed the heav ens and the earth.
Now the earth was form-less and empty, darkness was over
the surface of the deep... (Genesis, 1:1-2)

And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters
to separate water from water." So God made the ex panse
and sep a rat ed the wa ter un der the ex panse from the wa ter
above it. And it was so. God called the ex panse "sky"... (Gen-
