scientific research papers between 2001-2009 while a
postgraduate and PhD candidate and was previously
involved with teaching undergraduate students in
oral pathology, Nihon University, Japan. The awarding
of ICD Fellowship to Drs Fakakovikaetau and Fifita
was acknowledged at the recent opening of the new

and fluoride mouth rinse programs in schools,
fluoride applications of carious deciduous teeth
and monitoring the program results with DMFT and
DMFT surveys.
Dr Fifita lectures in dental assisting and dental
therapy training courses in Tonga. She is a member
of the South Pacific Medical Team which coordinates
Japanese volunteers to Tonga and has been a
