The starter guided them to Hole #1 which had 8-minute wait. They drew partners – Betsy-

Anne and Dan-Vik. Betsy and Dan could not have asked for a better draw as it would give

both a chance to discuss the issue openly.

So, it was girls vs boys. They agreed to Four-Ball play and aligned the handicaps.

Betsy and Anne combined well. After front 9, the scores were tied – 3 holes each. They

went into the club house for breakfast. Betsy and Dan did most of the talking; Anne and Vik

were quiet and distant. There answers were monosyllables.

Dan was unable to have a meaningful conversation as Vik was too cautious and chose to

respond to Dan’s questions rather ambiguously.

‘How can I draw him out? It will have to be done very sensitively.’

After completing the back 9, Girls were up 2 holes. There was no celebration.

They showered, changed, and joined in the bar. Once they settled, post ordering their drinks

and snacks, Dan started the conversation.

“Betsy and I really feel privileged to have you both as our neighbors and friends. We have

known each other for several years and have stood by in thick and thin. It is apparent that all

is not well with you two. But we respect you and your privacy and are confident that you will

make us part of it whenever you are ready to share.”

“We invited you today because we want to share our story and what has happened to us

over the past few weeks.”
