well and that you are both very unhappy about it.” Dan deliberately skipped any mention of
Anne telling Betsy.
“You will have to sort it out yourselves. All we can assure you is that Betsy and I are
available 24x7 for any help you may need.”
Anne looked up at them with pain and gratitude, restraining the moisture in her eyes. But
she could no longer hold them, and tears stepped down her cheeks. Before either of them
could react, Vik was out of his chair in a flash, moved to Anne’s chair, bent over, and put his
arms around her. She held his arms tightly, leaned on one and continued to sob quietly as he
tried to comfort her.
Unexpected as it was, Vik’s move startled Dan and Betsy and left them rooted to their
chairs. With a glint of hope that had suddenly surfaced, their eyes met and gestured that it was
time to leave the Chopras alone.
Rest of Sunday was uneventful and moved fast. After leaving the Chopras at the club, they
had not tried to contact them. Both were very curious to find out the outcome, but they had
agreed that there was nothing more they could do; the best was to allow them space. The ice
was broken; now they had to choose the path.
By dinner time, their curiosity was testing their patience, “What do you think is happening
at Chopras’?” Betsy inquired.
“I hope nothing negative. I guess, as the barrier – should I? would (s)he? – is now broken,
they must be sorting things out. We will know only when they choose to involve us.”
