Linda was not at her desk when Dan walked into Ron’s office. They settled down after

Ron’s effusive welcome and customary greetings.

“Last week you asked me Dan how it all comes together. Before I answer that question, it

is probably important that we address a subject that probably brought you to me.”

“If I recall correctly, you had said something about several people have bypassed you and

made Directors. Right?” asked Ron looking at Dan with a smile.

Dan, who was much wiser by now and had realized the difference between Ron and him,

looked blankly at Ron with somewhat embarrassment.

“Ron I already have my answer as far as you are concerned. I can’t say the same for few

others who bypassed me.”

“I realize that Dan, and that is why it is important that we discuss this rather openly. I must

add, however, that what I say today is as a friend. It is not in my official capacity as your boss’

boss or your hierarchical VP.”

“I will proceed only if this is OK with you.”

“Yes Ron. I well understand and appreciate it. Thanks for asking.”

“Great. This is not a question as you know this as well as I, but it is important that we

review this. In which areas do we assess employee performance?”
