There was a long pause as Dan sat there almost frozen and then said in an animated voice,

“Ron, communication has suddenly taken a totally different dimension for me. It has also

become clear to me why we spent so much time on it last week.”

“I am delighted you feel this way Dan. For today, this will be our focus……”

While Ron was still talking Dan thought of his conversation with Linda just a while ago,

‘was I able to influence Linda to make the right decision or was I persuading her with logic and data to stay

in the company?’

Ron’s words brought him back.

“The issue is not finding persuasive data or logic or arguments to push our point of view;

we are always equipped with loads of it and love to throw it around. The real challenge is our

ability to inspire and excite people to do what we want them to do.” “Data or logic by itself

seldom inspires people; it can persuade, but not inspire.”

Dan’s whole career flashed past him as he sat their motionless. ‘Persuading is what I have done

throughout my career. And not only at work, but also in personal life!’ Ron’s voice again brought him

back to the room. As he refocused, Ron was standing at the whiteboard drawing a picture.
