Dan reached Ron’s office full of anticipation for another exciting session but was surprised

to find that Ron was not there. Before he could ask, Linda was by his side explaining, “Ron

had to rush for an urgent meeting Dan. He asked me to tell you how sorry he was that you

will have to wait. I should have called you and postponed the meeting, but I did not for a

selfish reason.” She looked flushed as she said that. Dan noticed the steaming Starbucks from

corner of his eyes. He asked. “How can I help Linda?”

“Thanks Dan. It is rather personal and sensitive, but I know that I can trust you.” Her voice

went down two notches as she continued, “I have a major dilemma Dan. A headhunter has

approached me with an excellent opportunity outside the company; although the role is

similar, salary is far more attractive. However, The Global Company is such a good company

and Ron such a nice and caring boss that I can’t make up my mind.” “It is such a pleasure

working for him; he is understanding, considerate and fun to work with. I have never been so

confused before. Unfortunately, I cannot consult him. I will really appreciate your guidance?”

Dan stayed quiet, nervously thinking how to respond to this unusual situation. People had

asked his opinion on personal subjects earlier too, but this was rather bizarre as she was his

VP’s Executive Assistant.
