Dan was busy throughout the day and the morning meeting with Tom just slipped out of
his mind till he sat in the car to return home.
‘Why did Tom not respond enthusiastically? Why did such important learnings, which are changing my life,
not interest him? Was he preoccupied or did I fail to engage him? I thought I used all the right tricks to start.
What did not work?’
As week passed, Dan’s newfound commitment to work and family kept him fully occupied
and left no spare time to himself, but his ‘failure’ to engage Tom lingered as a dull pain in his
head. What he thought will really excite Tom had fizzled, but what really concerned him was
his inability to pinpoint the reason. The unanswered ‘Why’ bothered him constantly.
Driving back from work on Thursday, he received a voice message from Betsy.
“Sorry Darling. A school friend just popped up after 20 years. So, we decided to meet over
dinner. Your meal is in the kitchen; just warm it. Feel bad to leave you alone, but I know you
will understand. Love you.”
He did not want to keep the communication incomplete till he reached home so he stopped
the car by the side and punched the keys on his cell.
“I am delighted that you are meeting an old friend after so long. Have a great time. I will
be fine. Take Care,” ending it with a thumbs up, he pressed ‘send’.
Realizing that he had the evening to himself, his thought again wandered to the meeting
with Tom and the question ‘Why’. Reaching home, he parked the car in the driveway and
