reason why we have a good understanding and relationship!’ Another check for his theory.

More he thought, more confident Dan got of the true reason for the earlier deterioration

and the current dramatic improvement in Betsy and his relationship, ‘I have root-caused it well.’

‘It is simple yet so difficult to understand. How many relationships can be saved with this understanding?’

‘Is it that easy to give up one’s ego and control?’ he wondered. ‘Certainly not easy, but it can be done if one

is committed to. We did it!’

Another question popped up in his mind, ‘When one of the two moves from Control to Empathy,

will the other always follow?’. He did not know. ‘Not sure but probably yes. I was the first to move out and

Betsy followed almost immediately!’

Another critical question bothered him -- ‘What happens if one of us drifts back to Control, as is

quite likely?’ It was not an answer but aspiration. ‘The other must display understanding and patience;

and, under no circumstance should try to follow!’

‘Too many questions. I need to think this through a lot more. It is such a powerful learning! Must find a

way to share it with others. It has the potential to save many relationships.’

He relooked Ron’s Control-Empathy-Compassion concept drawing; it looked incomplete

and did not capture his new insights. He took a new sheet and redrew the CEC Triangle. It

took several iterations before he felt satisfied.

Feeling happy and elated, he turned on the laptop and started correcting the notes he had

hurriedly made on Friday evening.
