Dan’s 3rd meeting with Ron

1. Influence is not making people do what I want them to do, but it is making

people WANT to do what I want them to do!

2. I have operated through Control/ Persuade throughout my career. How can I

first move to Empathy/ Influence on my way to Compassion/ Commitment?

3. People in relationship must vacate Control space to sustain and strengthen their

relationship.

4. Control-Empathy-Compassion can all co-exist. Success is our ability to choose

the right what and when.

He read the points several times, replaying his conversation with Ron.

‘This is probably the most valuable lesson so far and this understanding will impact me directly as ‘Control’

is my predominant emotion. I will have to learn to move to and stay in Empathy and Compassion. Ron said

it will come naturally if I can care for people selflessly. Tom’s disappointment should be a learning for me. All

I needed was Feel & Thought and Empathy & Compassion. As Ron explained, being aware is the key. I

must be more conscious till it starts to come naturally. Yes. That is probably the right approach.’

He quickly summarized his new learnings and realized that he must also edit the previous

ones as his understanding had broadened.

Feeling satisfied with his edits after few corrections, he saved the file, closed the laptop, and

looked at his watch. He was shocked to see the time; he had spent far too long.
