almost chocked.’ A shiver went through his spine as he relived that moment. ‘But it was well worth

it; I think I strengthened my relationship with Tom today. Going by his nonverbals, I made a significant impact

on him. Selfless care for the people does work. Great experience. I will certainly do more of it.’

As he was about to reach his desk, another thought struck like lightening. He had to sit

down. ‘Haven’t I discovered something? A lose-win surrender can also lead to win-win engagement! That is

what really happened with Tom. My surrender melted his anxiousness and made him comfortable to engage

effectively. There are probably many ways to reach the Engagement point; it is situational! I must capture this

               thought.’

He pulled out his laptop and started typing.

As he finished, Anita was waiting for him. The day at The Global Company had begun.

The week was progressing well for Dan till the Monthly Review Meeting of his Leadership

Team on Friday morning. Tom got into verbal duel with one of his peers, Rob O’Brian, who

had questioned an approach Tom was proposing; it was the same old Tom after that! Being

irrational at times but mostly operating from Control space trying to dominate and go for win-

lose. Dan was deeply disappointed at Tom’s behavior, which showed almost no signs of any

learnings from their discussion on Monday.

Dan decided against intervening. He had no desire to take sides and wanted to give Tom

full opportunity to use his learnings to manage a situation like this. While they continued their

tiff, Dan went to his thought-land.
