Mental Health/NAMI Community Awareness Day
The members of Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter strive to bring attention
to mental illness among diverse populations with low utilization of mental
health services. On the designated Community Impact Day, April 8, 2017,
the Huntsville/Madison County community enjoyed a gorgeous afternoon
of line dancing to increase
mental health awareness and
raise funds for the National
Alliance on Mental Illness
(NAMI). The event was
organized by the Target II
committee and held at the Richard Showers Recreation Center. At
the start of the event, warm greetings were extended by our
Basileus, Soror Wilma Ruffin. She was followed by greetings and compliments from Mrs. Michelle Watkins,
Huntsville City School board member, and the Honorable Mr. Devyn Keith, Huntsville City Councilman.
Our very own chapter member, DJ Soror Erica Fox of WJAB 90.9 FM station, located on the beautiful campus
of Alabama A&M University, played the latest and greatest line dancing music. Sorors and guests enjoyed
line dancing and fun as well the refreshments donated by Domino’s and Costco. A great time was had by all
for a worthy cause. Our chapter partnered with Wellstone Behavioral Health and NAMI to share a wealth of
information and service opportunities with the community. Donations collected totaled $435.00
