TARGET IV: ENVIRONMENTAL OWNERSHIP

Article By: Soror LaDonna McCann

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Environmental Ownership Program will implement
high impact programs to provide healthy environments and improve the quality of
life in underserved communities. Target IV of EGO will focus on strengthening our
commitment and expanding activities designed to underscore the vital connection
between the environment and quality of life.

ACTS OF GREEN

EGO is going green in 2015! Target IV kicked off the “Acts of Green” Programs by installing solar panels, recycling

weekly, and using reusable drinking containers. The goal is to make Environmental Ownership a way of life by
continuously performing “Acts of Green.” For 2015, every month there will be a different green theme emphasis, but
ALL “Acts of Green” are encouraged.

*January: “Pink STROLLING in Green to 2015 *March: “Spring into Green”
*February: “Pink is the New Green”

In order to keep track of monthly “Acts of Green,” Target IV will hand out Green Passports during the February
Sorority Meeting. Sorors may also submit “Green Acts” via email to Soror LaDonna McCann,
ladonnamccann@yahoo.com, show the Green Passport to Soror McCann at Sorority Meeting or by filling out the “Acts
of Green” sign in sheet at Sorority Meeting.

1908 PLAYGROUND PROJECT

In December 2014, Target IV assessed the playground at the James A. Lane Boys & Girls Club. The playground was
overgrown and the equipment in need of repairs. During their visit, it was clear that would be the site for EGO’s Target
IV 1908 Playground Project. EGO’s Environmental Ownership Vice-Chairman Soror Brenda Chunn, Target Leaders

Sorors LaDonna McCann and Natalie Steele along with the committee will work very closely with Soror Liz Clemons,

Director of the Boys & Girls Club, to make the playground at the James A. Lane Boys & Girls Club a safe place for

children.
