When I was three years old, my dad had my brother who was younger than me ride a
horse in our backyard. I remember I had on a jacket and I got hot and wanted to take the jacket
off. My brother and I were on the back of the horse with no saddle and my dad was leading the
horse around by the bridle. I went to take my jacket off while I was on the horse, and I lost my
balance and started to fall off the horse. My instinct was to grab onto my brother who didn't
realize I was falling. I clotheslined him and we both fell off the horse onto the ground. I'm sure
my dad probably came around to the other side of the horse where we were we were crying. I
remember running into the house crying because my elbow hurt really bad. I kept crying so my
parents took me to the doctor and they examined my elbow. I remember riding to the emergency
room. I remember riding on a hospital bed with wheels down some hallways to get my arm
x-rayed. The doctor determined that I had broken the bone at the end of my elbow so I had to get
a cast for my arm. I have pictures of me being three years old with a little cast on my arm. The
cast covered the mid-arm all the way down to my hand and it had a funky right angle because
they had to get the bone back together. My mom tells the story that after a day or so, I got up
and told them I was ready to take the cast off. She told me she was sorry but that I would have to
wear the cast for six weeks and I just cried.
