Fourth of July
By Kaylee Callahan
My name is Kara. One tradition my family has is when I and my family and friends all
hang out outside in the backyard and grill for the Fourth of July. It is usually just a small
get-together. This memory is from when I was around ten years old.
I Remember that it was really hot and humid, the sun was out bright and shiny, and kids
were running around and screaming while playing tag. People were sitting in camping chairs in a
circle and talking to each other and laughing. There was smoke from the grill. You could taste
the steak that was cooking.
Later that evening, you could hear everybody shooting off these great big fireworks all
night long, I could see fireworks exploding into big explosions of lights as bright as the sun in
the sky and as loud as gunshots. The kids would run around with sparklers. Everybody was
shooting off fireworks. At the end of the night, we all sat around the fire pit and watched the
fireworks, and talked to each other.
This was a very special family tradition. We would get together for the Fourth and hang out
with each other.
