126 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
grandparents knew they had to be strong and find a safe place. They found a room with no
windows or glass. They crawled in and bent down, hands shaking, counting to ten; then it started.
“ BOOM, BANG, BOOM BOOM” the explosion was so strong, the house roof was peeling off
the house itself. The burning from the sky came down onto the lovely skin of my great-great
grandparents like flowers but way worse.
Finally, the ashes from the cloud burst came down. Their clothing wasn’t enough. They
tried so hard to find clothing, but it wasn't helping. Then the same soldier came to them asking
them if they were ok. “Are you okay? Can you hear me?” My great-great grandpa's hands were
still covering his ears. His ears were ringing. Tears streamed down his face from the pain. They
went to tents that were set up with medication and first aid. The soldier checked his ear. After
getting checked, they had to stay in a tent with blankets and pillows. My great great grandparents
sang and prayed all night thanking God because they survived and most had not.
Because of the event my great great grandparents survived, and this tradition been has
held through our family bloodline. We give thanks to the Lord and celebrate our family’s
survival.
