FAMILY CHRISTMAS TRADITION
By Madalynn Brandenburg
My parents started a tradition when my sister was born in 2004. Instead of doing
Christmas on the 25th of December, they decided to do Christmas on Christmas Eve. They
decided to do Christmas early because they knew in the future, they wouldn't have enough time
to do Christmas on the 25th. Every year my Dad tries to change the tradition that he started.
Now, instead of celebrating on Christmas Eve like we've always done, he wants to celebrate on
Christmas day, but we've never changed the tradition.
In the morning we go to my Nini and Papa's house
for breakfast and lunch. No matter what she cooks, no
one complains because she usually cooks the same
thing, biscuits, and sausage gravy. My Nini makes the
best biscuits and gravy, I'm not sure how to explain what
it tastes like, but I know it's the best I've ever had. My Little brother can get whatever he wants
for breakfast when he looks at my Nini with his big blue-green-golden eyes.
My brother could go up to her a few days before Christmas and suggest that we have
pancakes, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and different kinds
of syrups and that is what we would have. For lunch, we'll
have sandwiches, fruit, and chips. After breakfast and lunch,
we always seem to have leftovers even though there are
thirty other people in the house. There are always leftovers.
