76 The Unforgettable Moments in Life
Soccer is For Everyone
By Villa Horacio
Dr. Johnson, our fabulous librarian at LJHS was
born in Chicago, Illinois. He lived in Chicago for his first
two years and partially remembers the place, but his
brother who is a photographer took pictures of the place
they lived and showed him the walk-up apartment where
they lived. Dr. Johnson remembers that it would take him
about six or seven flights of stairs to get to his room.
When Dr. Johnson was five, his parents signed him up to
play soccer. He didn’t know what the sport was or whether he was gonna enjoy it, but as he got
more comfortable with the sport, he started to play all the time. In the scorching sun, the colorful
fall or even the chilly winter, he would kick the ball like a champ. He didn’t care if Mother Nature
bothered with his performance as long as he was having fun. He played for many clubs and
remembers watching a local college team play. He joined a league where everyone on his team
was from Central America and he was the only white guy.
Right now he has the chance to help out his kids by being a coach for them. He
coaches more than playing the game, but it's what he loves doing. He’s also a librarian for
Lakeside Junior High School. The reason why he became a librarian was that he is fond of
technology. If you ever told him when he was growing up that he was going to be a librarian he
would have just laughed at you and shrugged it off. His initial thoughts were either to be a
medical doctor, fireman, or professional athlete, but when he was a pre-med major, he soon
realized that he wasn’t very good at chemistry. Soccer is his family.
