1.5.13 Portable Firefighting Equipment
Portable firefighting equipment including portable fire extinguishers are not required to
satisfy the Building Regulations however are required to comply with duties under the
RR(FS)O. Portable fire extinguishers should the sited in accordance with BS 5306-8.
1.5.14 Internal Fire Spread (Linings)
Internal linings shall be classified as per the table below;

1.5.15 B3 – Internal Fire Spread Structure
The fire resistance levels in the following sections are specified in terms of R/E/I, where R, E
and I correspond to the following and are measured in minutes:
R – Loadbearing Capacity,
E – Integrity, and
I – Insulation.
Fire resistance requirements shall satisfy either BS 476 or the relevant European Standard
(i.e. BS EN 1364, 1365 or 1365).
1.5.16 Partition Wall
Approved Document B states that different buildings, or parts of buildings, that are classified
as different Purpose Groups must be separated by fire resisting construction.
Where storage is provided in a building designated as Shop and Commercial use, the
storage area should be separated from the retail area by fire 60 minute resisting construction
only when the following apply:
• The building or compartment is greater than 280m2 in area, and
