1.5.6 Emergency Escape Lighting
Emergency Escape Lighting should be provided to enable the safe movement of persons
along all internal and external escape routes. Emergency lighting should be provided in
accordance with BS 5266-1 and BS EN 1838.
1.5.7 Door Swing
The door leaf of any doorway or exit should, where reasonably practicable, be hung to swing
in the direction of escape and should always do so if the expected occupancy is more than
60 persons.
1.5.8 Designated Escape Route
A clear escape path should be maintained between DG02 and DG08 at all times, as
illustrated in the graphic below.

1.5.9 Shared Common Escape
Approved Document B allows for common escape stairs to be shared by flats and other
occupancies in mixed-use buildings only where the following apply:
