PARTICULAR ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION

1.4 PRE-START INSPECTION
1.4.1 General
With prior knowledge of the proposed project scope, carry out a visual inspection of the
existing Electrical installations and provide a condition report and recommendations for each
store, the report commentary shall be inclusive of but not limited to the following subjects:
1. Availability of space in the main the switchboard/switchroom for the installation of
additional sub-main switches and distribution boards for the connection of a new
Kitchen Distribution circuitry.
2. Note the external diameter of the main supply cable to the store
3. Note the protection setting of the main incoming switch
4. Where a kitchen bus-bar has been installed identify the manufacturer, type, existing
connected circuits (what they are connected to) and the number of spare tap-off points
available.
5. Where the existing lighting and/or power distribution is installed as singles in
trunking/conduit, check for the existence of individual CPCs
6. Check and comment on the type, age and condition of distribution cabling generally,
observing suitability for extension to connect to new loads. In the event that the
existing wiring systems have deteriorated, showing signs of ageing with brittle
insulation or over heating or have been installed in an un-safe manner (undersized
conductors, incorrect insulation rating, etc.) then the Contractor must notify the Project
Manager immediately.
7. Identify the location of any proposed additional distribution boards as may be necessary
to complete the works
8. Availability of cable routes between potential distribution points and load centres
9. Notes regarding the existing method distribution to the store lighting, i.e. single core
cables in trunking, multicore cables on tray or in trunking, 5A sockets, KLIK sockets
lighting bus-bar, etc.
10. Status and type of fire alarm system, including notes on the availability of compatible
components and/or parts and suitability for extension
11. Extent of the existing fire alarm detection distribution, identifying any areas not
presently provided with detection and/or alarms, including existing voids.
12. Condition, type, age and extent of emergency lighting provision including exit signage
13. Type, method and extent of emergency lighting control/switching, including the
availability of test facilities for the safe use of the store manager
14. Any defects, omissions, non-compliances and/or safety concerns as may be identified,
including an explanation of the associated risk, the remedial work required to rectify
said matters and an estimate of the associated costs.
The Electrical Contractor shall make the Project Manager aware of any immediate safety
concerns.
