PARTICULAR ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION

Where existing lighting bus-bars are going to be obscured and rendered inaccessible by the
installation of sections of new plaster ceilings then this bus-bar must be repositioned to
those areas where it will be accessible above false ceiling tiles.
All connections i.e. plug-in ceiling roses, rendar units, bus-bar tap-off units must be readily
accessible in ceiling voids to allow the safe isolation of the new lighting equipment. Where
there are large areas of plaster ceilings features installed then flush ceiling access panels
must be fitted to enable access to the lighting connection points .
When installing new circuits the contractor shall identify these at the respective distribution
boards.
1.4.2.2 Lighting
The Contractor is note the scope requirements for the replacement of light fittings, where
existing fittings are to be retained the Electrical Contractor will take down the existing
fittings and clean them before re-installation.
1.4.2.3 Emergency Lighting
The contractor shall check that the exiting circuit arrangements comply with BS 5266 and are
suitable for re-use.
It is imperative that the new emergency lighting system will not only operate under mains
failure conditions but also on phase failure and local circuit failure.
Where the existing wiring systems etc. to do not meet with the above requirements then the
contractor shall install appropriate circuits, test relays etc. to satisfy the above requirements.
A timed test facility is employed in most Restaurants to enable routine testing of the
emergency lighting installation.
The contractor will check that the test facility is functioning correctly and where it is not
operating correctly make appropriate adjustments to satisfy himself that the test discharge
periods meet with BS 5266.
Sufficient luminaires and emergency exit signs must be installed in compliance with BS 5266.
1.4.2.4 Fire Alarm Systems
The contractor will establish that the existing fire alarm system in the areas to be
refurbished meets with BS 5839.
The Contractor will determine that the removal of a single device registers as a fault at the
panel without preventing the correct operation of the remaining devices on the same wiring
zone. Any system that fails this test must be recommended for replacement.
