Each hand dryer will be provided with a dedicated fused connection unit mounted at high
level in the toilet space, the installation will be as described by the Technical Specifications
for Electrical Installations Generally.
1.8.1.3 Disable Toilet Alarm
Where the scope of the project include the refurbishment of the disabled toilet the Electrical
Contractor is to supply and install a new disabled toilet alarm system as described in the
Technical Specifications for Electrical Installations Generally.
1.8.2 Lighting
The Electrical Contractor will call-off the quantities and types of luminaires required to
complete the lighting installation. The Contractor is reminded to place the order for the
luminaires as early as possible, as some fittings are on long delivery.
Lobby lighting will be as indicated on the Architects’ reflected ceiling plan.
1.8.3 Emergency Lighting
Emergency lighting in the lobby area will be provided using E3R fittings.
The Electrical Contractor will determine the number and location of luminaires that are to be
fitted to meet the luminance requirements of BS 5266.
The Electrical Contractor will use the Architects’ fire route drawing to determine the
appropriate quantity and location of escape signs, escape signage provisions will comply
with the requirements of BS 5266.
1.8.4 Fire Alarms
Detection and alarms are to be provided for all areas of the store, the Electrical Contractor
will determine the most appropriate number and location of detectors, alarm sounders and
break glass units to meet the requirements of BS5839-1.
Detectors in the lobby spaces will be the optical smoke type. Smoke detectors will be

provided in all spaces with an enclosed area greater than 1m .
Additional sounders will be provided in the lobby area to maintain the minimum alarm level
5dB (A) above ambient.
