standard arrangements shall be notified to the Project Manager, who will instruct the
Electrical Contractor on any alternative earthing arrangements to be made.
A main protective conductor comprising a LSF insulated copper cable (6491B) having
green/yellow insulation shall be connected between the Electricity Board earthing
terminal and the main earth bar.
The main earth bar shall be made from hard drawn copper bar and shall be fixed to the
wall, adjacent to the main switch panel via insulated spacers. The main earth bar shall be
300mm long, 25mm wide and 6mm deep. Provision shall be made for easy disconnection
of the main earthing conductor as required by IET Regulation 542-04-02 by means of a
bolted disconnection link in the main bar. Complete with warning label to IET 514-13.
A LSF insulated copper cable (6491B) with green/yellow insulation shall be provided
between the main earth bar and each distribution panel earth bar.
Main equipotential bonding conductors shall be provided connected to the main earth
bar as detailed on the drawing.
All earthing conductors shall be to BS 7211 LSF insulated copper 6419B cables having
green/yellow insulation.
Each earthing and bonding conductor connected to the Earth bar shall be fitted with an
identification tag as manufactured by Critchley Ltd reference K type marker (order code
1361) and Universal Colour strip (flag type order code 1133). These tags shall be secured
to both ends of each conductor by 4mm cable ties.
Particular attention shall be made to the connection and making of all termination’s in
order to ensure a good mechanically and electrically sound joint and a continuity test will
be carried out.
Cables shall be terminated using only compression type lugs.
Main equipotential conductors shall be provided for the following: -
• Incoming water pipes
• Building structure steelwork, gantries, ladders, etc.
• HVAC ductwork (bonds also to be made across flexible couplers in ductwork)
• Sprinklers
The Electrical Contractor shall provide a complete system of supplementary bonding to
the following: -
• Wash hand basins, wash hand dryer units and sink units, (including the Three tub
sink units), including interconnections between hot and cold water services pipes
and all metallic waste pipe work.
• All pipe work connections to insulated water storage tanks.
