GENERAL ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION

2.17.9 Circuit Wiring
Wiring shall be carried out using FP200 cables as described elsewhere in this specification.
Where cables run parallel to cable trays, they may be installed on the tray.
The whole of the cable installation shall comply with clause 17 of BS 5839 : Part 1
2.17.10 Inspection, Testing and Commissioning
The whole of the installation shall be inspected, tested and commissioned in accordance
with clause 26 of BS 5839 : Part 1 and as further described.
The Electrical Contractor shall employ the fire alarm equipment manufacturer to set to
work, test and commission the completed system.
Commissioning shall be carried out in accordance with clause 26.5 of BS5839 : Part 1,
which shall include: -
a. An audibility test of the alarm devices. Audibility level readings shall be taken in each
room using an instrument complying with BS 5969, type 2 with ‘A’ weighting. Any
sound pressure levels found to be lower than that required be clause 9.4.1 of BS
5839 : Part 1 shall be reported in writing to the Engineer.
b. All trigger devices i.e. manual call points, heat detectors and smoke detectors shall
be tested for correct operation.
c. A mains failure test shall be carried out to verify the standby battery system complies
with the requirements of this Specification.
Prior to commissioning the Electrical Contractor shall provide a certificate of installation
and commissioning of the system (See appendix B and C of BS 5839: Part 1) to the
Engineer. It should be noted that a Practical Completion Certificate will not be issued until
this installation and commissioning certificate has been received and the installation and
commissioning certificate will not be accepted unless it is accompanied included within
the Record Drawings and User Manuals and the system Log Book (see appendix D of BS
5839 : Part 1).
On completion of the installers commissioning the Electrical Contractor will notify the
Project Manager that the system is ready for testing by McDonalds specialist fire alarm
maintenance Contractor.
2.18 EARTHING
A full system of earthing shall be provided by the Electrical Contractor. The Electricity
Board will normally provide an earthing connection at their cut-out from their network,
which shall be of the TN-C-S type. The Electrical Contractor shall ascertain the earthing
arrangements to be provided by the Electricity Board and any departures from the above
