2.17.6.2 Analogue Addressable System - Sounders
Each detector will be provided with a sounder base, however owing to the type and
weight of the ceiling tile material it will be necessary to provide supplementary horn type
sounders in the kitchen and public spaces to meet the minimum sound level
requirements.
Horn sounders in the lobby will be mounted on the ceiling; each sounder will be located in

an area of approximately 36m .
2.17.7 Magnetic Door Hold Backs
Magnetic door hold backs shall be supplied and installed by the Electrical Contractor
where a door linking between the kitchen space and staff corridor. The door hold back will
be connected to the fire alarm system. The hold back shall release the door upon a fire
alarm.
The units shall be manufactured and tested to the requirements of BS 5839 Part 3 1988.
The release units shall be fed via a power supply unit located locally.
2.17.8 System Interfaces
System interfaces will be provided for the control of the following systems:
• HVAC fans
• Access controlled doors
• Automatic door actuators
2.17.8.1 HVAC fans
Provide an interface connection to the HVAC control panel allowing the automatic shut-
down of the HVAC plant in the case of a fire (excepting the kitchen extract fans). The
Electrical Contractor will liaise with the HVAC controls Contractor to determine the most
appropriate switch state to be used.
2.17.8.2 Access Controlled Doors
Provide an interface connection at each door controller to allow the automatic release of
the door lock mechanism. The fire alarm contact should be normally closed, connected in
series with the lock mechanism. In the case of a fire the contact is to open, de-energising
the lock.
2.17.8.3 Automatic Door Actuators
Provide an interface connection for each door actuator system to allow the automatic
opening of the controlled door in the case of a fire alarm.
