    DATE CHECKING

    AND CLEANING

All colleagues are responsible for ensuring that all Dispensary and OTC
stock is date checked on a regular basis to ensure that customers
do not receive out of date products. The date checking process
is combined with the cleaning rota to ensure good housekeeping
    standards.

Expired stock results in a loss in profit to your branch as you have
purchased the stock but haven’t been able to sell it or use it against a
prescription which results in a loss.
Each branch should aim for zero waste, the 'Stock Write-off/Loss
Procedure' sets out key principles to help minimise loss and details
the procedure to follow for recording OTC and dispensary waste, it is
important to follow such procedures otherwise the stock will not be
    accounted.
    Please ensure that:

    • Date checking and cleaning is done every week and the rota is
       updated
    • Stock with a shelf life of 3 months of less is highlighted and
       dispensed locally when possible
    • Expired stock is written off following the Stock Write Off process
