throughout the spring and the summer so this activity provided a great boost to morale and
helped foster friendships withing the chapter.
Jack and Jill Day/Carole Robertson Day
Our celebration of Carole Robertson was a weeklong event culminating with a family
scavenger hunt. Our goal was to facilitate family activities and discussions throughout the
week on the life of Carole Robertson and the many sacrifices made by those that have come
before us in the fight for justice and equality.
We distributed swag bags to each family that included the following to help facilitate
September 26h Kimberli Lambert discussions: The Watson’s Go to Birmingham book & movie, Remembering Carole
Robertson coloring book and discussion questions, stained glass craft Set (to represent the
2pm
via Zoom Cultural 16th Street Baptist Church). Each family also received Jack and Jill t-shirts to wear for a
competitive family scavenger hunt on Saturday morning (Jack and Jill Day) from 8am-12pm.
Social/Recreational
Some of the 14 scavenger hunt missions \activities included family photos with Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE), photos in front of a Jack and Jill Day sign, and photos of
donations made to local charities. Jack and Jill Day culminated with a 20-minute zoom
meeting where we watched a tribute to Carole Robertson, announced the winners of the
family scavenger hunt, and provided a video collage of the week’s activities. The North
Texas Chapter was able to combine family fun, Jack and Jill history and pride, and
community service all in honor of Carole Robertson.
Voting PSA: Weighing in on What Matters
Jr. Teens will create a “Rock the Vote” public service announcement (PSA) to stress the
importance of voting and making your voice heard. Each child will spend time researching
and preparing a videotaped response to the following questions: Why is the right to vote
October 24th Sonja Norwood important to you? What qualities do you think our next president should have? If you could
3pm convince one person to vote, what would you say? We will then host a PSA unveiling party
via Zoom Civic/Legislative where we have invited a former state representative and current political strategist and tv
commentator to discuss the importance and value of our youth in elections. The PSA will be
uploaded to all the chapter's social media sites and all teens and moms will be encouraged to
share it among their networks. Our children will learn about the importance of voting and
utilize their public speaking skills to encourage others to do so.
