Chapter 6. A trip to the zoo
The gang always enjoyed a trip to the zoo so one fine day Grandpa and Granny
took them to Port Lympne. On entering the park, it was decided that they
would start with the gorillas. So off they went down the hill following the path
to the gorilla enclosure.
The huge apes were having a lot of fun in the sunshine. They raced from one
rope walk to another and scampered across the grass playing tag. The gang
loved watching them and Ellie in particular giggled with delight at seeing them
romping around.
After the gorillas, Grandpa suggested that the gang go on safari in one of the
lorries while he and Granny had a coffee in the restaurant. The gang queued at
the safari lorry park and were soon ushered onto one of the waiting vehicles.
Once loaded with passengers the lorry slowly chugged down the road with the
driver pointing out things of interest, mainly animals, on either side of the road.
They drove past the rhinoceroses and then the elephants and finally through two
sets of gates and into the park where antelopes, giraffes and zebras roamed. It
was so exciting with so many different animals to see. The heads of the giraffes
towered above them, the antelopes raced away in graceful leaps.
As they turned a corner, Harry noticed a fat zebra in distress, lying behind a
bush on its side.
