The girl replied “No, but my collarbone is broken, I think. I must find my
horse. Which way did she go?”
“We have sent James and Jackson to find your horse”, said Harry. “First
though, Bells and Amelia here, will do some first aid so that we can get you
back to somewhere where a car can reach you.”
Amelia took charge. “We need to get your jumper off so that we can bandage
you up.” Gently Bells and Amelia removed the good arm and with a bit of
stretching pulled the jumper over her head. It was then fairly easy to slip the
jumper down and off the bad arm. Even so, it hurt her a lot. The girl started to
cry from the pain.
“Get a long bandage, Bells. We are going to do a figure of eight behind her
back to pull her shoulders back”, instructed Amelia. The girl was more than a
bit worried about this but hoped that they knew what they were doing.
“Bells and Ellie, you get behind her and pull the bandage hard. If needs be, put
your knee in her back for leverage. I will watch the front to make sure you
don’t put pressure on the break.”
Once the bandage was on, Amelia fixed a sling to support the bad arm. The girl
was now as comfortable as they could possibly make her.
Just then, two happy boys appeared with a horse.
“I hope we caught the right one”, said James. They all giggled. Even the girl
managed a smile.
Meanwhile, Ellie had found her mobile phone at the bottom of her rucksack.
“Who would you like me to call?”, Ellie asked the girl.
“My Dad. His number is 07312635199”, she replied.
Ellie carefully dialled the number and waited.
“Hello, John Hathaway speaking”, came a voice down the phone.
“Hello, I am Ellie and we have just rescued your daughter from a riding
accident. We have patched her up but someone needs to collect the horse and
someone needs to take her to hospital”, said Ellie.
“Can you get her to the car park in West Wood?” the voice asked.
“Yes, we are not too far from there. We can be there in twenty minutes.”
“Well done Ellie. You handled that really well”, said Bells.
